Audio and Paperback Books Benefiting Struggling Readers
BPMS teachers Cindy Note, Anne Huggins, Will Greenleaf and James Kelly submitted a successful CEF grant that will provide audiobooks and paperbacks to support their struggling readers' needs. One solution was to find relevant, interesting books at their level that can both support and challenge their students. Knowing that reading and listening together allows students to hear strong interpretive reading, and learn critical listening skills was a great incentive to request grant funding from CEF. The value is that they are introduced to new vocabulary, new genres, and new dialects or accents. These teachers found that when the students in these reading classes have consistent support, they then turned to finding books to read even when the audiobook version was not available. We know that our grant for $429.00 will make a very significant difference for these students and those to come through these classes.
